Harry Vernon Richmond

Alderson-Harry Vernon “Vern” Richmond, 73, formerly of Beckley and Indian Mills, passed away peacefully on Friday, Sept. 9, 2016, surrounded by his family, at his home in Alderson, following a long illness.
Born Oct. 13, 1942, in Hix, WV, he was the son of the late Harry Edward and Violet Kincaid Richmond.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Travis Richmond; a daughter, Sherry Lynn Richmond Fleshman; and two brothers, Clyde Richmond and Danny Lee Richmond.
Mr. Richmond was a 1960 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School in Beckley. He worked as a mechanic for coal mines, and did mechanic and body work on vehicles. He spent his retirement years running his own pallet business. Mr. Richmond had a passion for driving tractor trailers and farming, and loved to spend time at his favorite place, his farm, at Indian Mills.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Carolyn DeHart Richmond of Alderson; three children, son, Danny Richmond of Anderson, SC, daughter, Carla Richmond Merritt and husband Gill of Alderson and son, Scott Richmond of Alderson; son-in-law, Howie Fleshman of Alderson; 11 grandchildren, Danica Richmond Boster and husband Reid of South Carolina, Jason Richmond and wife Kelsey of Wisconsin, Trista Jones Workman and husband Jake of Ronceverte, Amy Fleshman Baldwin and husband Charlie of Alderson, Randy Fleshman of Alderson, Carrie Pinnell, Michael Pinnell and Tyler Pinnell all of Alderson, Amber Richmond Merrill and husband Ethan of Diamondhead, MS, Courtney Richmond of Statesville, NC and Jason Scott Richmond of Alderson; nine great-grandchildren, Gage Boster, Taylor Baldwin, Kinsey Baldwin, Addie and Bella Baldwin, Cylee Snedegar, Brynlee Snedegar, Peyton Merrill and Avery Merrill; brother, Jerrell Richmond of Beckley; and many nieces and nephews. Other family and friends include Scott Pinnell, John “JP” Snedegar, Francis “George” Richmond, Robin Richmond, Desarae’ Bittle, Kenny Shrewsberry, Ronnie Yancy, Curtis Taylor, Eugene Thompson and Ed Thompson.
Mr. Richmond was loved by many, family and friends alike.
Memorial services were held on Tuesday evening, Sept. 13, at the Lobban Funeral Home Chapel, Alderson, where Preacher Eddie Harris officiated. Friends called at the funeral home before the service.
In honor of Mr. Richmond’s wishes, his final resting place will be at his farm at Indian Mills and the Alderson Cemetery, Alderson.
