Harlan Ray Hartsook

On Saturday, May 14, 2022, we lost our beloved hero, Harlan “Hob” Ray Hartsook. He unexpectedly passed away at Carilion New River Valley Medical Center in Christiansburg, VA, due to respiratory failure, non-COVID related, while surrounded by members of his loving family.

Harlan was born on Sept. 26, 1932 and was 89 years young.

He was an avid furnace repair man, gardener, woodworker, and all-around outdoorsman. He enjoyed doing special projects with the help of his grandson, Roger Hinkle. Harlan was a member of Grace Bible Church in Asbury, WV.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Homan H. Hartsook and Nina F. Gilkeson Hartsook; sister, Helen L. Hartsook; brother, William “Bill” F. Hartsook; daughters, Shelby K. Haubert and Evelyn “Gayle” Hicks; stepchildren, Shelva J. Wilson and Virgil L. Moten; and grandson, Joseph “Joe Joe” R. Lesher, II.

He is survived by his loving wife, Eleanor E. Bowling Hartsook, Clintonville; brother, Lacy Hartsook, Clintonville: his children/step-children, Shirleen (John) Bishop, North Myrtle Beach, SC, Carol Jaeger, Union Grove, WI, James (Susan) Moten, Rosburg, WA, Joyce (Jesse) Martin, Clintonville, Fran (Joe) Lesher, Elkview, Shirlene (Wayne) Andrews, Clintonville, Sandy Carroll, Rupert, Mike (Theresa) Hall, Scott Depot, Teresa (Wayne) Poling, Mt. Vernon, OH, Jimmy (Denise) Hall, Charleston, WV, Tonja (John) Bossie, Teays Valley; sons-in-law, Jim Hicks, Lewisburg, and Donald “DD” Suttle, Williamsburg, WV. He is also survived by several grandchildren, great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and many friends to cherish his memory.

Services will be held at Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home in Lewisburg, on Saturday, May 21, at 2 p.m. with Pastor Mike Teubert officiating. Friends may pay their respect from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the service.  Burial will follow at Andrew Chapel United Methodist Church in Williamsburg, WV.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at stjude.org under Dedicate my Donation in memory of Harlan Hartsook. Please request notification be sent to joyce_martin@live.com.
