Registration is now open for Greenbrier Valley Theatre’s Youth Education Program’s annual Summer Drama Camp, this year called “ACTions Speak Louder Than Words.” Drama camp is offered to children ages 5-14 and runs July 24-Aug. 6.
“Summer camp is the perfect opportunity to learn and demonstrate all aspects of theater. Summer camp creates opportunities for all campers to shine, whether in the spotlight or behind the scenes in our tech classes,” said Education Director Courtney Susman.
Students in GVT’s summer drama camp experience intensive study in theater arts. Campers ages 5-14 spend two weeks exploring creative dramatics, acting for the camera, scene study, voice and movement, creative writing, storytelling and technical theater. Camp culminates in a performance written, developed and produced by the students.
“GVT teaches you so much about acting and you get to meet so many wonderful people,” Johnna Telisko said. The young camper, who will be returning for a third summer, won “Best Evil Villain in a Play” at the awards ceremony last year.
Campers ages 5-8 attend for half days from 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at a cost of $285. Older campers spend whole days, 9:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m., at the theater for $385. Need-based scholarships are available. Registration for Drama Camp closes July 14. Space is limited.
