The GVAC Sea Dragons swim team competed in the WV Short Course State Championship Meet in Bridgeport March 13-15. All of the swimmers had significant time drops, achieving 92 personal best times and setting 22 new team records.
The 9-10 Girls 200Y medley relay team (Kennedy Willis, Lennie Taylor, Zoey Hobbs, Kensley Routson) and 200Y freestyle relay team (Kennedy Willis, Dolly Knight, Kensley Routson, Zoey Hobbs) both placed 4th in the state. Swimmers with individual top 10 finishes included Addi Alderman (50Y and 100Y back), Emily Hobbs (500Y and 1,000Y Free; 400Y IM, 200Y Back), Zoey Hobbs (200Y Free), Avery Hodges-McGuffin (400Y IM), Solomon Rodebaugh (100Y Breast), Luke Taylor (200Y Free; 50Y, 100Y and 200Y Breast; 100Y IM), Mary Taylor (100Y Breast), and Kennedy Willis (100Y Breast). Additional swimmers who qualified for finals were Harper Bostic, Pierce Necessary, Albert Liu and Stella Rodebaugh.
Emily Hobbs became the first Sea Dragon in the history of the team to qualify for Southern Zone Age Group Championships based on her performance at states. She will travel to Orlando in July with other West Virginia qualifiers and compete with swimmers from all over the Southern US. This is a huge accomplishment made possible by hard work, dedication, and supportive teammates.
