Guy Rodney Edward Edds

Flat Mountain-Guy Rodney Edward Edds, 89, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2014, at the Brier Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, Ronceverte, following a sudden illness.

Born June 2, 1924, in Alderson, he was the son of the late William Nathan and Eugie Jean Lemons Edds.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Joanna Rayburn Boggs Edds; daughter, Patty Joan Hiser; three brothers, Omer Edds, Rudolph “Doc” Edds and Audrey Lewis Edds; three sisters, Ruby Cook, Lorean Loud and Gledine Creed; and great-grandson, Josiah Scott Bryant.

Mr. Edds was a retired custodian, having retired from the Monroe County Board of Education after 20 years of service at Union Elementary School, Union. He was a member of the Flat Mountain Missionary Baptist Church, Alderson. Mr. Edds loved to sing and work outside. He enjoyed gardening and doing any kind of yard work.

Survivors include: son, Guy Junior Edds and wife Bernice Edds of White Sulphur Springs; daughter, Connie T. Baldwin and husband Hugh David Baldwin, Jr., of Alderson; four grandchildren, Amanda Bryant and husband Darrell Bryant, of Alderson, Matthew Baldwin and wife Kali Baldwin of Alderson, Debbie Morgan and husband Gary Morgan of Lewisburg and Sheryl Wikle of Alderson; seven great-grandchildren, Shawn Blankenship, Kendra Morgan, Gracie Morgan, Gary Morgan, Jr., Lance Bryant, Adalynn Baldwin and Benjamin Baldwin; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Sunday, Feb. 9 at the Flat Mountain Missionary Baptist Church, Flat Mountain, Alderson, where Pastor Dave Spencer and Pastor Youel Altizer officiated.

Burial was in the Adkins Family Cemetery, Flat Mountain, Alderson.

Visitation was Saturday evening, Feb. 8 at the Lobban Funeral Home, Alderson, and one hour prior to services at the church on Sunday.

Serving as pallbearers were: Hugh Baldwin, Matthew Baldwin, Darrell Bryant, Gary organ, Danny Morgan and Joshua Nichols.
