Lewisburg-Gregory Herman Ponder, 63, died Thursday, Nov. 14, 2019, at the Peyton Hospice House, Lewisburg, following a yearlong battle with cancer.

Born Apr. 4, 1956, in St. Louis, MO, he was the son of Marcella May Richardson Ponder and the late William Roman Ponder.

Greg loved hunting and fishing and gardening and living a dynamic life. He loved women, sweets and stories. Greg worked hard, gave generously and always returned a favor. Living up to his given Indian name “Long Walker,” he tended daily to the plantings of the Lewisburg Foundation. He was kind and giving to those that respected his life and his work. Greg loved his grandchildren. A memorial bench presented by his friends on his last birthday is at Center Green with a plaque that reads: DEDICATED FRIEND AND CARETAKER OF OUR TOWN’S GARDENS.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his wife, Carla Ponder.

Including his mother, he is survived by a daughter, Tonya Creech; son, Mark Massey; grandson, Roman Massey; granddaughter Cayla Rahin; grandson, Ian Creech; and sister, Frances Thexton.

It was Greg’s wish to be cremated. To honor Greg, consider sending a donation to: Flowers Forever Endowment, 674 Church Street, Lewisburg, WV 24901.

Online guestbook may be signed at www.morganfh.net. Arrangements by Morgan Funeral Home, Lewisburg.
