Greg Norman will be the keynote speaker at the GameChanger/WVU Medicine dinner and golf classic May 27 and 28.

Sports legend turned businessman will also participate in the golf event

Golf legend Greg Norman, who was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame with a higher percentage of votes than any other inductee in history, has accepted an invitation to deliver the keynote speech and play in the golf portion of the sixth annual GameChanger/WVU Medicine Dinner and Golf Classic May 27-28 at The Greenbrier Resort in White Sulphur Springs.

Among the most successful athletes to turn to business in any sport, the “Great White Shark” has won more than 90 tournaments worldwide, including two Open championships, and holds the distinction of defending his No. 1 position in the world golf rankings for 331 weeks.

“Protecting our youth from the deadly impact of fentanyl and opioid misuse is one of the most important challenges we face today globally,” Norman says. “GameChanger is making a real difference through prevention education, and I’m honored to support an organization that is working so hard to protect the next generation.”

Regarded as one of the most prolific players in the game’s history, Norman adds to the prestige of previous GameChanger keynote speakers: Nick Saban, Brad Paisley, Roy Williams, Jennifer Garner and Tim Tebow. Norman is elated to participate in an event for such a worthy cause.

Norman now transcends the game of golf with more than a dozen companies around the world bearing his name and his iconic shark logo as part of the Greg Norman Company, which he leads as chairman and CEO. His internationally recognized brand boasts more than 140 golf courses across six continents, a global real estate collection, award winning golf-inspired lifestyle apparel, and a diverse investment division.

Today, Greg Norman’s legacy extends far beyond the golf course. He remains a bold innovator, global business leader and relentless advocate for progress in the sport.

GameChanger founder and executive director Joe Boczek says it is a tribute to GameChanger and its prevention education staff that the program has grown so much in such a short time while continuing to attract people of Norman’s stature who want to help.

“Greg Norman’s reputation as not only a legendary golfer but as an internationally renowned businessman speaks for itself, but his willingness to step up to the plate to help save our kids speaks volumes for him as a person. The tremendous work of our team of prevention specialists has resulted in GameChanger being recognized as among the best and most innovative prevention education programs in the nation.”

The sixth annual classic, which began in 2021 featuring Nick and Terry Saban, is set for May 27 and 28 with the reception and dinner on May 27 at 6 and 7 p.m. respectively. The 18-hole golf scramble on the Greenbrier’s world-famous Old White Course will take place May 28 with a golfer’s breakfast from 7 a.m. until the 9 a.m. first tee start.

GameChanger is an innovative, comprehensive K-12 student-powered substance misuse prevention model that delivers a holistic approach to prevention education. Through evidence-based and evidence-informed programming, community awareness initiatives, and the intentional cultivation of supportive school environments, GameChanger reduces substance misuse while empowering youth to make healthy, informed decisions as they develop into leaders of tomorrow.
