Greenbrier Valley natives have long known the joys of a slow float down the Greenbrier River, but now the rest of the country is catching on. USA TODAY 10BEST has officially ranked the Greenbrier River as the number one river for tubing in the United States for 2025. The announcement was made earlier this week as part of the publication’s annual Readers’ Choice Awards, which recognize top travel destinations across the country.
“This is another excellent win for the Greenbrier Valley. A day on the Greenbrier River can be a leisurely float or a little more adventurous, depending on what you’re looking for. We’re thrilled to see it be recognized and hope to welcome more people to the area to enjoy one of our favorite summer activities.” Valerie Pritt, director of public relations, Experience Greenbrier Valley.
The ranking process began with nominations from a panel of travel experts who highlighted rivers nationwide for their accessibility, scenery, and recreational value. Readers then cast their votes, and the Greenbrier River nabbed the top spot on the list.
“In the southeastern reaches of West Virginia, the Greenbrier River provides visitors with more than 160 miles of prime tubing territory. While the river offers long stretches of placid water, it also has a few pockets of Class I and II rapids, providing a little added excitement during a routine tubing journey,” states USA Today’s website.
Other winning rivers include the Bogue Chitto River in Louisiana at number two, the Boise River in Idaho at number three, the Delaware River in New Jersey at number four, and the Brandywine River in Pennsylvania at number five.
