A Greenbrier River Celebration will be held at Lost World Caverns on Saturday, Aug. 23, from 1 to 5 p.m. The Greenbrier River Watershed Association, Friends of the Lower Greenbrier River, and the West Virginia Cave Conservancy are sponsoring the event.
State Senator Ron Miller and DEP Environmental Advocate Wendy Radcliff will speak about their perspective on environmental concerns in the Greenbrier watershed. Lost World Caverns offers free cave tours for participants. Hell for Certain String Band and Dave Buhrman will provide live music and food vendors will be available. Participants can meet with local clean water advocates from neighboring counties. In addition, there are planned educational kids’ activities.
Although some may initially question why a celebration of the river is hosted at a cavern, groundwater in the cavern is directly linked to the Greenbrier River. Keeping the river clean begins with protecting karst topography from pollution.
Sponsors are accepting all donations upon entrance. For more information or to RSVP, contact Leslee McCarty at 304-647-4792 or greenbrierh2o@gmail.com.
