Paul and Mary Lindquist have received the Dr. Emory Kemp Lifetime Achievement Award by the Preservation Alliance of West Virginia.

The Greenbrier Historical Society is delighted to announce that Paul and Mary Lindquist have been honored with the esteemed Dr. Emory Kemp Lifetime Achievement Award by the Preservation Alliance of West Virginia. The recognition was bestowed upon them at the Alliance’s annual awards banquet on Apr. 27, held at the historic Senator’s Mansion in Mannington, WV.

Paul and Mary Lindquist’s dedication to historic preservation is an inspiration. Their journey began in Columbus, Georgia, where they lovingly restored ten historic homes, including the iconic “Three Sisters” Victorian Houses. Upon Mary’s retirement from Columbus College, they turned their attention to the restoration of Montwell, her family’s ancestral home in Lewisburg.

In Lewisburg, Paul’s leadership as President of the Historic Landmarks Commission led to significant updates in the town’s preservation guidelines. Mary’s deep involvement with the Greenbrier Historical Society and the Greenbrier College for Women’s alumni association reflects her unwavering commitment to preserving local history and heritage.

Mary Lindquist, a current Board Member of The Greenbrier Historical Society, and Paul have also been active members of the Preservation Alliance of West Virginia. Paul served on its board of directors and later as President. Their most recent accomplishment includes the restoration of the Hunter House, a neglected faculty residence of the Greenbrier College for Women, which now stands as a testament to their dedication and craftsmanship.

Paul and Mary Lindquist’s efforts in historic preservation not only revive treasured landmarks but also cultivate a deep appreciation for the rich cultural heritage of their communities.

“The contributions of Paul and Mary Lindquist have been invaluable to our community,” said Al Emch, president of the Greenbrier Historical Society Board of Directors. “Their passion and commitment to historic preservation have set a standard for all of us, and we are immensely proud to see them recognized with this prestigious award.”

The Greenbrier Historical Society applauds Paul and Mary Lindquist for their outstanding contributions and well-deserved recognition.
