The Lady Spartan Volleyball team hosted a 16-team tournament last weekend, with JV playing Sept. 26. Varsity played Saturday, Sept. 27.
The Lady Spartans have picked up right where they left off at the end of last season. After a runner up finish at the 2013 State Tournament, this year’s team has started off this season with continued success. The team’s current record is 19-4. Thus far, the Spartans have competed in three tournaments. They lost out in the semi-final match at the Woodrow Wilson Invitational but brought home the championship trophy from the Nicholas County HS Tournament. All-Tournament Award recipient at Woodrow was Senior, Abby Brown. Receiving All-Tournament awards at the Nicholas County tournament were Seniors Abby Morgan and Abby Brown and Juniors Lauren Lusher and Bella Coles. The Spartans finished runner-up at the Cabell Midland Volleyball Tournament. They defeated Riverside in the quarterfinals and then Hedgesville in the semi-finals before losing to Spring Valley in the championship match. Abby Brown received an All-Tournament award there as well.
Coach Matt Sauvage is very excited about this season’s team skills, work ethic, character, attitude, and much more. He says, “The sky is the limit for this team!”
