The Greenbrier East cross country team is excited to announce that three runners have individually qualified for the state competition in Ona, West Virginia on Oct. 27.

Dayton Austin, Malachi Crews, and Tori Parks will all be representing Greenbrier East High School. Dayton is a freshman, and is motivated by the quote, “If you’re not first, you’re last.” Returning to states for the second year, sophomore Malachi finds motivation from the quote, “Don’t dream of winning, train for it.” Tori states that she likes to run because it makes her push herself more and more each race. While all three runners enjoy math and crunching numbers, it doesn’t take a calculator to determine that they are number one in our book!

Runners of the Week

Zach Feury
Joey Santiago

Greenbrier East’s cross country runners of the week are Zach Feury and Joey Santiago. Both runners are seniors and have been dedicated to the sport for several years. Zach’s favorite subject is agriculture mechanics and he states, “As long as you finish the race is all that matters.” When not competing, Zach is one of the team’s biggest supporters. Joey’s favorite subject in school is algebra, and has a team huddle ritual called the React. Joey has finished out the season with a personal record, breaking the 20-minute mark two times.
