The West Virginia Federation of Republican Women, Greenbrier County Chapter, held its October meeting on Monday, Oct. 21, at The French Goat. Members enjoyed a variety of canapés prepared by the restaurant prior to and during the meeting.

Denise Morrisey resigned as the founding president. Members elected by acclamation Sue Spicer, longtime Republican leader and former Chairwoman of the Greenbrier County Executive Committee, as the new chairwoman. Sue, along with Sue McKinney, represents the tenth senatorial district on the WVGOP Executive Committee.

Members voted to again send Christmas cards to county military veterans as a service project. Discussion was held on finding a venue and a suitable day for monthly meetings. Several suggestions were made and will be investigated by the federation chapter officers.

The Federation will also be supporting the local food pantries by bringing nonperishables to the next two meetings. The November meeting will be at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 25, at Del Sol.

The December meeting is tentatively scheduled to be held in conjunction with The Greenbrier County Republican Christmas Victory Party on Saturday, Dec. 14, at The Dutch Haus Restaurant with details to be presented at the November meeting.

It was noted that women may be members of only one chapter of the Federation but are free to participate in all activities and meetings of all chapters, This is particularly of interest to residents who own homes in the south and may spend winters there.

Visitors and prospective members are welcome at all Federation functions and are encouraged to attend,

Dues are paid on an annual basis in January and are $25 per year. An anonymous member has offered to pay dues for any who find them a hardship. The goal being to involve as many interested Republican women as possible in political activities and to encourage women to be candidates for public office locally and statewide.
