The Greenbrier County Board of Education held its monthly meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 11. After a call to order, the Superintendent issued a proclamation regarding “Celebrate Freedom Week.”
The purpose of “Celebrate Freedom Week” is to educate students on the Declaration of Independence, the Emancipation Proclamation, and the U.S. Constitution with an emphasis on the Bill of Rights. Instruction must also include the historical, political, and social environments surrounding each document at the time of its passage or ratification. State law requires all schools in West Virginia to participate in this instruction.
In other business, the board awarded the $500,000 Food Services Produce Bid to Tri-County Produce of Ronceverte, W.Va.
In personnel matters, the board approved various reassignments, new hires, transfers and resignations.
The next Board of Education meeting is scheduled for Sept. 8, at 6 p.m.
