At the Apr. 29 special Greenbrier County Board of Education meeting, board members unanimously appointed Jeffrey Bryant as the Superintendent of Schools, effective May 1, 2024.
Following Bryant’s retirement last month, the Board appointed Doug Clemons as the interim superintendent. Board President Jeanie Wyatt states, “Mr. Clemons has fulfilled those interim duties in the same manner he has served Greenbrier County Schools for the past 36 years, with absolute professionalism and outstanding leadership, fulfilling every expectation (and beyond) of the Board. We have known since January that Mr. Clemons plans to retire at the end of June. We are grateful for his many years of service and the incredible job he has done as interim superintendent.”
After retiring from what Jeff Bryant describes as “the best public school system in the state of West Virginia,” he respectfully requested that the Board consider his appointment as superintendent, noting that his dedication, passion, and commitment to serving Greenbrier County Schools remains steadfast as does his desire to continue to contribute meaningfully to the growth and development of students, educators, and our school system.
“During Mr. Bryant’s tenure as superintendent, we navigated various challenges and celebrated numerous achievements,” states Board of Education President Jeanie Wyatt. “From the trials of the 2016 flood to the unprecedented challenges we faced during the pandemic and the successful completion of several major facilities projects, Mr. Bryant’s leadership has been crucial. We are confident that he will serve with integrity, dedication, and distinction, as he always has. We are also hopeful that his return will dispel any speculation regarding recent events as we move forward together to advance the mission of our school system. We are very pleased to welcome him back as superintendent.”
Jeff Bryant has served Greenbrier County Schools for 43 years and began his tenure as superintendent in 2016. Bryant states, “My brief retirement has reaffirmed my desire and commitment to return to work. I left the job unfinished, and I am grateful to the Greenbrier County Board of Education for granting me this opportunity to return. I don’t know when I’ve looked so forward to getting back to the office.”
