The Greenbrier 4-H Foundation, established in 2007, has provided financial support for 4-H programs in Greenbrier County, fostering both educational and fun experiences for local youth. One of the highlights of the year is National 4-H Week, celebrated annually in October to encourage young people to engage in community service and explore valuable learning opportunities through various activities and clubs.

This year, National 4-H Week kicked off on Sunday, Oct. 6, and runs until Saturday, Oct. 12. The Greenbrier County 4-H program organized a series of exciting activities for members and their families to enjoy throughout the week.

Festivities Included:

  • Silly Pet Sunday: A pet costume contest held at the WVU Extension Office in Fairlea, where participants showcased their creatively dressed pets.
  • Monday Madness: A day for members to sport their 4-H apparel.
  • Tell Us Tuesday: Participants shared photos of their volunteer work, highlighting community service.
  • Wildlife Wednesday: A celebration of West Virginia’s natural beauty, with members sharing their favorite wildlife photos.
  • Thankful Thursday: Members shared a photo of their favorite 4-H Volunteer to show appreciation.
  • Future Friday: Members were asked to share a photo representing what they plan to do in the future.
  • Show Us Saturday: Participants were encouraged to share a photo with their 4-H projects.

In addition to these themed days, the week included a 4-H Rodeo at North Star Farm, an indoor pool party at the Greenbrier Valley Aquatic Center, and a free Movie Night at The Lewis Theatre. Members also decorated barns and shop windows to promote the week and reserved radio spots at Radio Greenbrier.

Join 4-H! Children age 9 to 21 can join the Greenbrier County 4-H program to develop leadership skills and engage in fun activities. Parental or guardian permission is required. For younger children age 5 to 8, the Cloverbuds program offers a playful introduction to 4-H, focusing on enjoyable activities.

National 4-H Week not only celebrates the organization’s impact but also invites new members to become part of a community dedicated to learning, service, and fun!
