The Greenbrier Composite Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol proudly announces the promotion of Cadet Captain Gabriel Bishop, who has been awarded the esteemed Amelia Earhart Award. The award was formally presented by West Virginia State Senator Vince Deeds during a recent squadron ceremony held at the Greenbrier Valley Airport.

The Amelia Earhart Award is a milestone in the Civil Air Patrol’s Cadet Program and marks the culmination of Phase III of the cadet experience. Fewer than 5% of all CAP cadets achieve this honor. It signifies not only advanced leadership and aerospace knowledge but also a deep commitment to CAP’s core values of integrity, volunteer service, excellence, and respect. With this achievement, C/Capt Bishop becomes eligible to attend the prestigious Cadet Officer School and has earned eligibility for advanced placement upon enlistment in the U.S. Armed Forces.

“We are incredibly proud of Cadet Captain Bishop,” said Capt. Chris Bishop, Squadron Commander. “This award represents years of hard work, perseverance, and leadership. It is a major milestone not just for him, but for our entire squadron.”

In addition to C/Capt Bishop’s promotion, the Greenbrier Composite Squadron celebrated the accomplishments of several other cadets: Cadet Senior Airman Will Bolen (not pictured), Cadet Airman Brayden Ingram, Cadet Airman Sebastian Muhs, Cadet Airman First Class Bailey Kowalski, and Cadet Staff Sergeant Pierre Suteau.

Each of these cadets has demonstrated exceptional dedication and growth in leadership, character development, and aerospace education.

The Greenbrier Composite Squadron meets weekly on Monday evenings from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at the Greenbrier Valley Airport. Youth age 12 and older, as well as adults interested in volunteer service, are encouraged to attend and learn more about Civil Air Patrol’s mission in emergency services, cadet programs, and aerospace education.

For more information, please contact Capt Chris Bishop at chris.bishop@wvwg.cap.gov or 681-296-8350.

Civil Air Patrol, the official auxiliary of the U.S. Air Force, is a nonprofit organization with more than 60,000 members nationwide. CAP performs 90% of inland search and rescue operations in the continental U.S. and offers cadet programs to inspire leadership and public service among America’s youth.
