The West Virginia Daughters of the American Revolution held their 120th State Conference on Apr. 4-6, in Bridgeport at the Conference Center at Charles Pointe.
Attending from the General Andrew Lewis Chapter were members Beverly Boswell, Deborah Philips and Suzanne Cronquist.
The high light of the meeting for the attendees was a presentation about Quits of Valor for Veterans. Their mission is: “Our mission: to cover Service Members and Veterans touched by war with comforting and healing Quilts of Valor.” The quilts are handmade for a specific veteran and then presented to that veteran in a warm and loving celebration of their service.
Equally inspiring was the presentation about General LaFayette’s Farewell tour. On the 28th and 29th of May, Wheeling will celebrate the 200th anniversary of the farewell tour General LaFayette made in 1825. It took him two years and he traveled more than 6,000 miles to visit the 24 states. His only stop in West Virginia was on May 24, 1825, when he visited Wheeling.
The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution is a nonprofit, non-political women’s service organization whose main objectives are historic preservation, education and patriotism. Members are all lineal descendants of those who supported the cause of independence in the Revolutionary War back in 1776.
