GEHS Senior Evan Roberts signs to wrestle at Wheeling Jesuit University
A very successful Greenbrier East student-athlete will continue to wrestle at the next level. Evan Roberts was a three-year Varsity Wrestler, Team Captain and a member of the West Virginia Academic All-State Team. Evan was a three-time State Qualifier and finished twice in the Top 8 at the West Virginia State Championships. Among his many awards and accomplishments, Evan was the Team leader in Pins (35) and Wins (44).
He was voted the team’s Most Valuable Wrestler and won the “Consistency Wins!” Award. It is named in honor of Olympian and World medalist Sammie Henson, Head Coach of WVU. During his Wrestling career at Greenbrier East HS, Evan had the opportunity to wrestle many State and Nationally ranked Wrestlers. He has beaten State finalists and many other Tournament Champions along the way.
“Wrestling in College is Big-Time and very difficult, but under the guidance of Coach Sean Doyle, Head Coach at WJU, Evan will improve as a Wrestler. More importantly, Coach Doyle will welcome Evan into the Cardinal Culture and create opportunities for him to succeed on and off the mat,” said Head Coach Brian Miluk.
Evan Roberts is the 5th Greenbrier East Wrestler in the past four years to join a College Wrestling program. All of our Senior Wrestlers in the past four years have applied and been accepted to Colleges. Coach Tracy Asbury has made that our #1 priority. We take Pride in raising our standards on and off the mat. “Be a Good Person first, then become a Good Wrestler” is the common theme.
