The Greenbrier County Board of Education applauded county and state-level winners of the West Virginia State Bus Safety Poster Contest during Time Out for Applause at the Nov. 12 Board meeting.
Among those awarded was Trinity Perkins, who not only won first place in the state, but also placed third in the nation for students in her age group.
Greenbrier County Schools Transportation Director George Brooks and Art Instructor Marla Bell presented a certificate to each student to honor their achievement. Students who won first place honors in the State competition are now in the running for national recognition.
School Bus Safety Week was established in 1966 by the National Association for Pupil Transportation, National Association of State Directors of Pupil Transportation Services and National School Transportation Association. Celebrated each fall, the week promotes awareness on the local and state level through poster and speech contests, distribution of school bus safety toolkits, and other activities to raise awareness of school bus safety issues.
