On Tuesday, Dec. 9, FPC Alderson hosted its Annual Community Children’s Party at the institution’s training center.

Each year, an Angel Tree is available for staff to adopt a child in order to purchase gifts of toys and clothing.

In addition, the children receive a handmade knitted or crocheted hat andglove set, scarf, and stuffed animal made by inmates as part of FPC Alderson’s Yarn Project. Thirty-two children from eight local schools (Ronceverte, Mountain View, White Sulphur Springs, Talcott, Jumping Branch, Alderson, Smoot, and Hinton Elementary) attended the event. A special treat was a visit from Santa, a.k.a. Don Fraley, and Mrs. Claus, a.k.a. Dr. Natalie Wright, both of Lewisburg.

Tina Wickline, warden’s secretary, coordinated the event. Providing assistance was Phyllis Sea, drug treatment specialist; Heather Duff, psychology technician; Joy Bowling, supervisor of education; and the FPC Alderson’s Employee Club.
