Entries to be displayed in the Great Hall of the West Virginia Culture Center

West Virginia First Lady Denise Morrisey invites local K-12 classrooms and adult creators from across the state to participate in the Inaugural First Lady’s Gingerbread House Competition this holiday season.

“This is a wonderful opportunity to spark creativity while celebrating the joy of Christmas,” said First Lady Denise Morrisey. “We’re excited to see the talent and imagination from students and adults alike on full display at the Culture Center this season.”

The competition is open to public, private and homeschool classrooms, with each classroom eligible to submit one entry. Adult participants may submit one entry per individual or team.

Entries will be judged by a panel based on the following criteria:

  • Overall design and appearance
  • Adherence to guidelines
  • Creativity
  • Neatness and craftsmanship

The winning classroom of each student category will receive a $100 gift certificate for art supplies. The top adult entry will be rewarded with a $100 West Virginia State Parks gift card.

Gingerbread houses and completed competition entry forms must be delivered to the West Virginia Culture Center by 5 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 21. Winners will be notified on Monday, Dec. 8. Entries will be on display in the Great Hall from Dec. 1, 2025 through January 2, 2026.
