Sit under the lights on the Alderson Memorial Bridge and watch fireworks over the river on Friday, Dec. 21. Celebration starts at 6 p.m. with fireworks scheduled for 8 p.m.

On Friday, Dec. 21, the town of Alderson will hold a Winter Solstice Celebration beginning at 6 p.m. There will be warming stations under the lights on the Alderson Memorial Bridge with singing and story-telling.

Mrs. Claus has promised to visit and bring some hot chocolate and gingerbread. She will accept any last minute requests for Santa Claus. Alderson shops will be open late for last minute gifts.

Bring your own chair to sit around the fires and watch the fireworks at 8 p.m. The fireworks will be produced by the Alderson Volunteer Fire Department and are underwritten by Alderson’s Store and other generous individuals. The best place to view the fireworks will be from the Alderson Memorial Bridge.

Because of the warming stations and fireworks, the Alderson Memorial Bridge will not be open for the usual Friday “drive under the lights,” although the lights will still dance. The last opportunity to drive under the lights will be Saturday, Dec. 22, from 6 to 8 p.m. to benefit the Alderson Volunteer Fire Department.

Mayor Travis Copenhaver said, “I need to say ‘thank you’ again to the many elves who made all these Alderson holiday activities possible. Special thanks to Lynda Howe and Alderson Main Street for all their coordination and to the generous people who supported and helped with the work. Please come and enjoy!”
