Fine Arts Center for New River Valley offers art classes

The Fine Arts Center for New River (FACNRV) will offer the following art classes:

• Beginner’s Stained Glass – Instructor: Rhonda Whitehurst; Date and time: Mondays, beginning Mar. 2 through Apr. 6, Day Class: 1-3 p.m.; Night Class: 7- 9 p.m.

This is a 6 week class in copper-foiled stained glass. The class will be for persons who would like to learn the art of stained glass or who would like to perfect their cutting and soldering. Students will learn a safe and proper way to cut, foil, solder, clean and polish stain glass. Materials will be provided at a nominal fee for students to complete an 8 x 10 glass project. The project can be seen at the FACNRV.

Class Fees: $60 (FAC Members) and $70 (Non Members)

Material Cost: $10

• Advanced Stained Glass – Instructor: Rhonda Whitehurst; Date and time: Tuesdays, beginning Mar. 3 through Apr. 7, Night Class: 7-9 p.m.

This is a 6 week class for persons who have taken classes previously and/or have experience in the copper-foil method of stain glass. In this class students will work on:

1. Perfecting basics of cutting, soldering, etc.

2. Designing projects

3. Working in 3-D

4. Decorative soldering. Metals and foiling.

5. Incorporating objects into a project

6. Plating

Class Fees: $60 (FAC Members) and $70 (Non Members).

• Wire Wrapped Jewelry – Instructor: Rhonda Whitehurst; Date and time: Tuesdays, beginning Mar. 3 through Apr. 7, Morning Class: 10 a.m. – 12 noon; Wednesdays, beginning Mar. 4 through Apr. 8, Afternoon Class: 1-3 p.m. and Thursdays, beginning Mar. 5 through Apr. 9, Night Class: 7- 9 p.m.

This is a 6 week class in wire wrapped jewelry for beginners to intermediate. The class project will be a charm bracelet made out of copper. Students will make a different charm each class along with additional practice pieces that can be incorporated into earrings, pendants, etc. Students will also learn to make links for the bracelet and how to attach all of the charms. The project can be seen at the FACNRV.

Class Fees: $60 (FAC Members) and $70 (Non Members)

Materials: There will be a short material list for this class. All items can be purchased at Walmart or Michaels.
