Gap Mills-Esther Ellen Galford Withrow, 92, passed away Sunday, June 5, 2016, at White Sulphur Springs Care Center.
She was born Mar. 13, 1924, at Woodrow, WV, a daughter of the late Albert Summers and Elva Porter Byrd Galford.
Esther was a former caregiver and also worked at Glen L. Martin during WWII as a “Rosie the Riveter.” She was a proud member of the Crimson Springs Church of Gap Mills.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Luther Emerson Withrow, Jr., on Nov. 22, 2015; son, Martin Withrow; one grandchild; three sisters, Lura Scott, Sadie Clowser and Pauline Hancock; and seven brothers, Price, John, Austin, Clark, Junior, Carl and Garland Galford.
Survivors include: daughters, Charlene K. Mengel (Donald) of Spring, TX, Phyllis I. Porterfield (Ronald) of Sweet Springs and Pandora Buckland (Ronnie) of White Sulphur Springs; son, Curtis Emerson Withrow (Debbie) of Conroe, TX; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Her funeral service was held on Wednesday, June 8, at the Crimson Springs Church at Gap Mills where Pastor Jim Rogers officiated. Burial was in Carmel Cemetery, Gap Mills.
Friends called Tuesday evening, June 7, at the Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home in Lewisburg.
