We have finished our last match for the EGMS golf season. We have battled snow, rain, match cancellations, cold weather, and some frustrations, but I feel we had a great season. We had 22 boys and 3 girls on our team this year. Everyone has improved greatly this season and gotten to practice several times as well as play matches. Golf is an extremely hard sport that I feel imitates life. It has good times and bad times, ups and downs, but in the end it is a great game. We learn a lot about ourselves while playing golf. This is my 55th year of playing golf. I started at age 12 in 1959. I am so glad golf is part of my life and that it is part of each of your lives. I hope you too enjoy golf for your lifetime!

Coach Mac Parks and I are humbled and honored to have been your golf coaches this season. Coach Parks doesn’t own a computer so I will speak for him. We couldn’t have done it without the support, help, and encouragement of many people. I want to thank all of you parents for letting us share your sons and daughters with you for a few weeks. You parents donated water, snacks, drove players to practices and matches and encouraged our whole team. Thank you to Roy Painter for letting us play four matches at the Lewisburg Elk’s Club and for instructing many of our players. Thank you to Billy Winters, Head Golf Instructor at the Greenbrier Faldo Golf Center, for instructing many of our players. Thanks for the support of teachers, counselors, staff at EGMS, Deputy Brian Sheppard, and Principals of EGMS for all their support, help, and encouragement. Also, thank you to the WV Daily News and the Mountain Messenger for printing our team pictures and matches. Thank you to Coach Parks for all his time and help. If I forgot to thank anyone I apologize.

Coach Mac Parks asked me recently, “Terry, you are 66 and I am 71! We have been the golf coaches at GEHS and EGMS for four years now! How much longer are we going to be golf coaches?” I said, “I guess the good Lord will tell us when it’s time to retire!”

God Bless you all! Terry Koon, Golf Coach EGMS
