Elmira Colleen Rogers, 92, of Hico, passed away on Monday, October 7, 2024, at Rainelle Healthcare Center. Colleen was born in Clifty, WV, on October 19, 1931; she was the youngest and last surviving of her five brothers and sisters. She became a member of Kesler Memorial Presbyterian Church in her childhood making her one of the oldest members of the church. She was a 1949 graduate of Nuttall High school and a proud member of the National Honor Society. Shortly after marrying Robert Rogers on June 25, 1950, they moved to the farm on the end of the Dotson Ridge where they raised four children, numerous farm animals and “Four Acres of Truck Patch.” She worked tirelessly growing, canning and selling vegetables and enjoying her many flowers. She was an expert quilter and loved making her many beautiful patchwork quilts. She enjoyed attending church and reading her Bible. She taught her children about Jesus and faithfully attended the little schoolhouse church up the road many times walking to and from no matter what the weather with four small children in tow.
She is preceded in death by her husband Robert; Mother, Ida Crookshanks; sisters, Lovie, Letha and Marie; brothers, Harvey and Edward.
She is survived by her four children, Raymond (Pam) Rogers of Summersville, Dianna Alexander of Mt. Lookout, Nile Rogers of Hico and Norma (Tony) Ellis of Hico; seven grandchildren, Daniel (Cassie) Ellis, Jeremy (Susan) Rogers, Stacy (Brandon) Church, Jillian (Justin) Douglas, Aaron (Kendra) Alexander, Alicia Rogers (Chris Smith) and Lori Black, She was Grammy to fourteen great-grandchildren, Connor, Cruz and Carter Ellis, Brody and Bryson Church, Grace and Ava Douglas, Ainsley and Avery Alexander, Hart, Sonny and Artie Rogers-Smith, Jeremy (Lydia) and Chase Black. She is also survived by sister-in-law, Mary Lou Crookshanks, many loving nieces and nephews and special caregiver, Liz Koontz.
Services will be at 1 p.m., Friday, October 11, at Kesler Memorial Presbyterian Church, Sunday Road, Hico, with Pastor Peter Shaffer officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Friends may gather with the family from 12 noon until the time of service at the church.
