Lewisburg-On Sunday, June 21, 2015, Elizabeth Dickson Degges passed away at The Seasons in Lewisburg.

Born on Sept. 14, 1924, at Second Creek in Monroe County, “Miss Betsy” was well known throughout Monroe and Greenbrier Counties. She was a retired social worker for the Department of Health & Human Resources. She was instrumental in her support and involvement in establishing the Family Refuge Center in Lewisburg and the Monroe Health Center in Union. She was active in PEO and the Presbyterian Church.

Miss Betsy was preceded in death by her husband, Mead F. Degges; parents, Edgar and Charlotte “Tata” Dickson, C.F. Dickson, William M. Dickson and her daughter-in-law, Sue Degges.

She is survived by her son, Frank K. Degges of Bolingbrook, IL; her brother, Edgar Dickson and wife Mae of Richmond, VA; and several nieces and nephews, cousins and great friends.

Her good deeds and acerbic humor will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. As befits a humanitarian, Betsy donated her body to WVSOM so that others might learn from her after she was gone.

The family will hold a celebration of life memorial service at the Salem Presbyterian Church at Organ Cave on July 16, at 11 a.m.
