Smoot-Edward William Breit, 83, passed away Monday, Oct. 23, 2017, at Greenbrier Valley Medical Center in Fairlea.

He was born Aug. 5, 1934, in Rupert, the son of the late Ed and Glendyne Johnson Breit.

Ed was a graduate of Greenbrier Military School, Lewisburg, and attended WVU and Virginia Tech as an engineering student. He was a U.S. Army veteran. Mr. Breit was a retired coal mine operator as well as an expert farmer.

Preceding Ed in death other than his parents were three sisters, Ann Breit Yeager, Edna Breit and Martha Lou Breit Crawford.

Those left to cherish Ed’s memories are his wife of 53 years, Norma Crone Breit; his special and dearest friends, James Holiday, Joshua Cooper and Joe Shelton; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A celebration of life for Ed Breit was held Thursday, Oct. 26, at the Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home. Interment followed in Rosewood Cemetery in Lewisburg.

The family received family and friends at the funeral home before the service.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Greenbrier County Humane Society, 151 Holliday Lane (P.O. Box 926), Lewisburg, WV 24901.

Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home, Lewisburg, is in charge of arrangements. Please send online condolences by visiting www.WallaceandWallaceFH.com.
