The Greenbrier East girls cross country team qualified for states this year, competing at Cabell-Midland High School in Huntington against 11 other teams that qualified. Seven runners competed for East: Cami Wagner, Kaeley Boyd, Makenzy Mandeville, Jaelynn Parks, Carli Sheppard, Stephanie Rogner, and Tessa Knisely. With more than 100 runners in the race, representing all twelve schools, Cami Wagner was East’s top finisher in 44th place.
The team drove to Huntington Friday evening, October 29, and competed the following day. The standard race for cross country competition is 3.1 miles.
Head coach Jerry Long expressed pride in the team for their accomplishments, and singled out the seniors for special praise: Stephanie Rogner, Kaeley Boyd, Jaelynn Parks, and Makenzy Mandeville. Assistant coach Kim Sexton said, “I am extremely proud of all our runners. Their drive and commitment to the sport shows, and it’s great to be part of helping them reach their goals.”
Cross country is now finished for 2016. Regular track and field competition will happen in the spring.
