Midland, MI-Dr. Gertrud Brecht, 93, died Friday, Oct. 25, 2013.\r\nShe was born June 18, 1920, to the late Friedrich Wilhelm and Borghild (Engvoldsen) Goebel in Larvik, Norway, moving to Germany as a child.\r\nIn 1948, Dr. Brecht completed her medical studies in Freiburg, Germany. She married Hans Brecht in Canada and immigrated to the United States in 1951, settling in Huntington, WV, where their son, Thoralf was born. After moving to Cincinnati, OH, she completed her residency and practiced medicine from 1957 to 1978 at the Meeker Clinic, General Hospital and her own private practice. Following the death of her husband in 1985, Gertrud moved to Maxwelton. In 2011, she moved to Midland, MI to be closer to her son.\r\nWhether it was the Alps of Germany, the mountains of their camp in West Virginia or the trees of her back yard in Midland, MI, she enjoyed the mountains and outdoors. Dr. Brecht maintained her medical license and medical memberships until her death.\r\nShe is survived by: her son and daughter-in-law, Thoralf and Karen Brecht of Midland.\r\nIn addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her sister, Ingeborg Goebel of Bad Reichenhall, Germany.\r\nFuneral and committal services for Dr. Brecht were conducted on Tuesday, Oct. 29, from the Wilson Miller Funeral Home, 4210 N. Saginaw Road, Midland, Michigan where Pastor Dan Youmans of Lighthouse Body of Christ Church officiated.\r\nInterment will be in Oakhill Cemetery, Cincinnati, OH.\r\nVisitation was held Tuesday at the funeral home before the service.\r\nIn lieu of flowers, donations in Dr. Brecht\u2019s memory may be offered to MidMichigan Home Health Care, 3007 N.
