In an on-going investigation, a total of 54 individuals were apprehended on 174 drug-related charges involving prescription pills, cocaine and heroin in Summers County Wednesday. The drug sweep was the result of a 10-month investigation. Police hope the arrests send the message that they will do all they can to take on the region’s drug problem.
Many of those arrested were known repeat offenders. The roundup began at approximately 11:30 a.m. Wednesday morning.\
The local citizenry is tired of seeing this kind of drug-related activity going on in the area according to Cpl. John Cooper of WV State Police.
“These arrests will make a large impact on the drug-related crime in the area. We are never going to completely wipe it out but we are going to continue our investigation, continue our efforts …and hopefully make a difference,” said Cpl. Cooper.
Police are continuing to make further arrests. The sweep was a multi-agency effort including the West Virginia State Police, Summers County Sheriff’s Department and Hinton Police.
