Donald Gray Toothman Sr., a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and respected community member, passed away peacefully at the age of 94 on May 26, 2026, at Seneca Trail Healthcare Center in Lewisburg, WV. Born on Apr. 27, 1932, in Ronceverte, Donald lived a life marked by devotion, humor, and a steadfast commitment to those around him.

A veteran of the U.S. Army, Donald served with honor during the Korean War, exemplifying dedication and courage that remained hallmarks of his character throughout his life. Following his military service, he embraced the rich outdoor traditions of West Virginia, nurturing a deep passion for hunting, fishing, tending to his garden, mowing grass, and cutting brush – pastimes that not only defined his leisure but also reflected his enduring connection to the land and nature.

Donald was known for his vibrant personality; he loved to cut up and crack jokes, bringing joy and laughter to every room he entered. His unique ability to make everyone feel special earned him the admiration and affection of all who knew him. Beyond his humor, Donald was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need, embodying kindness and generosity that left an indelible mark on the community.

He is survived by his children: Donald Toothman, Jr. (Trudy), Johnny Miller, Steve Miller (Valerie), Carol Clark, Jo Ann Hatch, and Diane Blaine (Charlie). His loving family extends to 20 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews who continue to carry forward his legacy of warmth and care.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents, Gordon and Rose Morgan Toothman; his beloved wife, Gertie Hall Toothman; and siblings Booty, Herman, Alta, and Guy Toothman, along with Rose Hanfin, Marie Lockhart, and Barbara Honaker.

Special gratitude is extended to Jo Ann Hatch, Tony Miller, Tammy Persinger, Lonnie and Melinda Hall for making Donald a priority in their lives and spending treasured time with him.

Visitation will be held on May 29, from 6 to 8 PM at Morgan Funeral Home, 252 Montvue Drive, Lewisburg, WV 24901. The funeral service will follow on May 30, commencing at 11 AM with Pastor Stewart Farley officiating. Burial will follow in the Adwell Cemetery, Ronceverte, WV.

Donald’s life was a testament to love, laughter, and selfless support of family and friends. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege to know him.
