Denver Leslie Barker

Rainelle-Denver Leslie Barker, 93, went to be with the Lord on Friday, June 24, 2016, in his residence.

He was born Jan. 29, 1923, in Turtle Creek, Boone County, West Virginia to the late Ethel Barbara Reed and Lonnie Alonzo Barker.
Denver was a proud coal miner, a member of the UMWA for 43 years, a member of Sewell Valley Baptist Church, worked with the CCC for a year in Oregon, a World War II Army veteran and was wounded during the second wave on Omaha Beach in Normandy, France.
Mr. Barker was preceded in death by his wife, Annabelle Stantliff Barker; son, Robert Ray Barker; and brothers, Glen, Bernard, Cecil, Chris, Lonnie and Phil.
Those surviving to cherish his memory are: daughters, Barbara Surbaugh (J.D.) of Madison Heights, VA, Brenda Kinzel (Bob) of Drexel Hill, PA and Marilyn Redden (Mark) of Willliamsburg, VA; son, Denver Leslie Barker, Jr. of Rainelle; daughter-in-law, Barbara Burns Barker of Logan; 10 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
His funeral service was held on Thursday, June 30, at Lewisburg Baptist Church, 246 Grand Avenue, Lewisburg, where Pastor J.D. Surbaugh and Pastor Fred Fryar officiated. Interment with Military Honors followed in the Maude Chapel Church Cemetery, Dawson.
Friends called at the church Thursday before the service.
