COMPLETE “CERT” TRAINING – Four DSLCC staff members: Front Row: Billy Ould (left), Julia Bennett-Burch, Becca Linkswiler and Ted Wiseman) recently completed the Train the Trainer, Campus Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) course under the Virginia Citizens Corps, a division of the Virginia Department of Emergency Management. The four staff members are now qualified to train DSLCC employees and community members. Recently ten additional members of the DSLCC faculty and staff completed three days of this intense training to become members of the Campus CERT team. Second Row: Alisa Armentrout (left), Nova Wright, Melissa Unroe, April Tolley and Erica Decker. Back Row: Clayton Burch (left), David Campbell, Paul Vosteen, Michael Scott and Marcus Maier. The CERT program educates people about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact the DSLCC campus or the participants’ localities and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations. For more information, contact Angie Graham, DSLCC vice president for financial and administrative services, at 540-863-2806 or email agraham@dslcc.edu.
“CERT” TRAINING at DSLCC—Participating in a mock disaster recently at Dabney S. Lancaster Community College as part of the CERT (Campus Community Emergency Response Team) training were: Shane Byer (left), a member of the Covington Fire Department and a DSLCC Emergency Medical Services student, along with DSLCC staff members Michael Scott of Roanoke, Jeanette Mann of Covington and Ted Wiseman of Clifton Forge. Playing the victim was DSLCC EMS graduate Morgan Murray, who is an A-EMT and a member of the Dunlap Fire and Rescue Squad. The team was practicing transporting a patient using a blanket in lieu of a stretcher. DSLCC is one of only 13 community colleges with a CERT team.
