A public recital of organ music will be presented Oct. 1, at 4 p.m., at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Davis, WV. The guest artist, from Washington, DC, is Mickey Thomas Terry, a prominent concert organist who has concertized throughout the United States and the Caribbean, and has been featured on Public Radio International’s Pipedreams.
Prior to the performance, Terry will present an organ workshop at 10:30 a.m., where he will discuss African American compositions for organ, including his multi-volume anthology, published by MorningStar Music. According to composer George Walker, 1996 Pulitzer Prize winner for music, “Dr. Mickey Thomas Terry is a superb recitalist of unquestionable ability.”
Hosted by St. John’s, the event is co-sponsored by the Monongahela Chapter of American Guild of Organists and Gerrero-Kirk Classic Organ Inc. The fee for all or part of the day’s activities is $10. Group Lunch (Dutch) at Blackwater Falls Lodge must be reserved by emailing margbos@comcast.net.
