On Oct. 3, the Greenbrier Women on Wellness (WOW) Community partnership met with community, government and businesses leaders at the Rainelle Medical Center. The goal of the meeting was to discuss why the delivery of WOW in Rainelle is so important to the community.
The Women on Wellness Retreat is scheduled Nov. 8 at the Rainelle Elementary School. WOW is a one-day behavioral change retreat designed to lead women towards healthier lifestyles. Attendees will learn what local communities have to offer to help them along their wellness journey. The event includes with health screenings, nutrition and fitness workshops, education opportunities, holistic offering and healthy lifestyle planning.
Rainelle Mayor Andy Pendleton presented the partnership with a proclamation declaring Nov. 8, as Women on Wellness Day in Rainelle. Mayor John Manchester of Lewisburg and Mayor John Nichols of Rupert have committed to presenting the partnership with proclamations declaring Nov. 8 Women on Wellness Day in their communities.
The Women on Wellness Retreat is organized by a local steering committee in conjunction with the National Center for Excellence in Women’s Health at WVU (COE).
Local sponsors include Rainelle Medical Center, The Town of Rainelle, The West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine, New River Community and Technical College, the Center for Rural and Community Medicine at WVSOM, the Robert C. Byrd Clinic, Greenbrier Valley Medical Center and The Greenbrier.
There is a charge for the retreat, which covers materials and food. The COE has received a grant from the Greenbrier Valley Community Foundation to provide gift certificates to any women who would like to attend but do not have the financial resources to do so.
