Bringing encouraging words and hope from the desk of Mayor Beverly White: Congratulations, Class of 2024 – 55th Graduating Class

By Mayor Beverly White

What does it mean to be a Spartan?

55 years ago, our schools came together to be Greenbrier East High School. As a member of the first class here we decided we could work together and become future leaders in our towns, counties, and state.

We decided that we would show others how to work together, play together, and stay together like a family. There are members of the Class of 69 who are still friends today.

To be a Spartan means being respectful of all persons, to show empathy where needed, and not hurt our fellow Spartans and to be generous in our compliments.

As you go forward as a Spartan, may you never know what it is to be bullied, may you never know what it feels like to be disrespected because of who you are, may you never experience unkindness, may you never be judged by the clothes you wear, texture or style of your hair, may you never feel the hurt because someone thinks you are not as good as they are, may you never feel that you are not worthy to be loved.

You are Spartans! You are our future! You are the best of the best-not just some of you but all of you!

You are loved! Remember the world needs you! Remember you are worthy! Remember we all need each other.

You will never know who you might need in life-it may just be a Spartan that you did not know you would need.

Spartans- remember who you are! The world is watching. Be the example others want to follow. Be all you can be not just for yourself-but for the world!

I love you – go make us proud!

Sincerely,

Mayor Beverly White
