Col. Mark Harris to be Republican Club Christmas Dinner keynote speaker

Colonel Mark Harris, M.D., will be the keynote speaker at the annual Greenbrier County Republican Club Christmas Dinner at The Dutch Haus on Thursday, Dec. 4, which will be in lieu of the regular December monthly meeting.

Colonel Harris grew up in California. After graduating from Loma Linda University Medical School he entered the U.S. Army (Medical Corps) for a career spanning 26 years, and earned doctorates in Business and Philosophy and master’s degrees in Business, Public Health, Divinity, and Theology.  He was the chief of clinical operations for the Joint Task Force National Medicine, which including working with the White House Medical Unit in 2012-14. He co-led the Army medical support for the presidential inaugurations in 2009 and 2013. Colonel Harris served as the primary care team physician for Georgetown University and for the U.S. All Armed Forces Women’s Soccer Championship in Cherbourg, France, in 2009-10.

Colonel Harris served with the First Armored Division in Baghdad in 2003-04 and with special forces in the Middle East and Africa 1992-95 and was on the NASA support team for the space shuttle mission in 1995. He was awarded the Bronze Star and the Legion of Merit during his service.

Doctor Harris currently manages the MD Harris Institute, which provides humanitarian relief, education and medical care in Ukraine, Central Asia, Israel, the West Bank, Taiwan and the USA. And is also the missions pastor for the Beckley Memorial Baptist church, chaplain of Beaver Volunteer Fire Department, and WV Southern Disaster Relief.

Doctor Harris and Nancy, his wife of 35 years, have five grown children and live in Glade Springs.
