Charles Leslie Norvell, Jr.
White Sulphur Springs-Charles “Chuck” Leslie Norvell Jr., 66, passed away at the home of his daughter in Crows, VA, on Saturday, Jan. 17, 2015.
Born Dec. 28, 1948, in Clifton Forge, VA, he was a son of the late Charles Leslie and Mary Frances Patricia McCrossan Norvell, Sr.
Chuck was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in White Sulphur Springs. He was a graduate of Carlisle Military School in Bamberg, SC, in 1967 and also a graduate of West Palm Beach, FL Culinary School. Chuck loved to play golf, fish and hunt. He loved watching sports of all kinds. He was a member of the Covington Moose Lodge for over 20 years, a member of the Lions Club for over 30 years, serving as President twice. He and his daughter, Jamie were co-owners of Mom and Dad’s Place, the former Bones Diner in White Sulphur Springs.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Jeannie Norvell Runyon.
Survivors include: his caregiver and beloved daughter, Jamie M. Norvell of Crows, VA; two cousins, Roger Kesterson of Lewisburg and Mike Kesterson of Roanoke, VA; and his ex-wife and best friend, Diane Reynolds of White Sulphur Springs.
Memorial services were conducted Sunday, Jan. 25, in the chapel of Shanklin Funeral Home where Rev. Max Thomas officiated. They received their friends an hour before the service.
Interment will follow at a later date in Greenbrier Memorial Gardens, Lewisburg.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the White Sulphur Springs Lions Club.
Ruth Ann Kreft
Ronceverte-Ruth Ann Kreft, 82, died Sunday, Jan. 25, 2015, at her home after a short illness.
Ruth was born June 11, 1932, the daughter of the late Harry and Rachel Bennett.
Ruth was a member of the St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church and choir, the Williamsburg CEOS Club, breast cancer support groups, library book club, and the Altar Society.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Teddy Kreft.
Ruth is survived by a brother, James Bennett (Chris) of Arvada, CO; six nieces; and numerous cousins.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Jan. 30, at 11 a.m. at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church in Ronceverte with Father Jim Conyers officiating. A reception will follow the service.
Burial will follow the reception at Morningside Cemetery at 2 p.m. at Renick.
Visitation was Thursday evening, Jan. 29, at McCraw Funeral Home in Lewisburg.
