Betty Wooddell Matheny

Lewisburg- Betty Wooddell Matheny, 87, formerly of Green Bank, passed away Friday, Jan. 23, 2015, at the Peyton Hospice House in Lewisburg, surrounded by her family.

Betty was born Oct. 8, 1927, at Marlinton, a daughter of the late Edgar B. and Geneva Florence Sharp Wooddell.

She was a member of Hebron Baptist Church at Green Bank, was a member of the Red Hat Society and was a retired Beautician.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by 11 brothers and sisters, Melvin, Ada, Alice, Faith, Clarissa, Ethel, Margie, Oleta, Porter, Arch and Ed.

Survivors include: her husband of 63 years, John Mitchel Matheny, Jr.; two daughters, Deb Matheny of Maxwelton and Donna Daugherty of Staunton, VA; four loving grandchildren, Jodi Nichols of King, NC, Josh Beverage (Gloria) of Lewisburg, Max Beverage (Cassy) of Moberly, MO and Jami King (Nick) of Staunton, VA. She always put her family first and was so proud of her eight great-grandchildren, Madi and Lexi Nichols, Drew and Cooper Beverage, Gunner and Kynnlee Beverage, Conner Peters and Sawyer King. Also surviving are her special nieces and nephews; special friends at The Seasons and her special friends in the Red Hat Society.

Graveside services were held Tuesday, Jan. 27, at Arbovale Cemetery Annex, with family members officiating the service.

There was no visitation.

So when life’s short journey ends,

Soul & body part like friends

No quarrels, no murmurs, no delay,

A kiss, a sigh, and so away.

The family suggests donations of sympathy to be made to Kayla Dunbar’s Fund at wwww.gofundme.com/jdfhvw or to the Peyton Hospice House, 1265 Maplewood Avenue, Lewisburg WV 24901.

Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home in Arbovale is in charge of arrangements. Please send online condolences by visiting www.WallaceandWallaceFH.com.
