Carved Shadow Box Painting

Carnegie Hall is excited to announce a new hands-on art class this October: Carved Shadow Box Paintings, taught by local artist and owner of Young at Art, Merideth Young. This four-session series invites participants to explore the creative possibilities of layered, sculptural painting in a relaxed and supportive environment.

Held on Thursdays, Oct. 2, 9, 16, and 23 from 6 to 7:30 p.m., the class is open to students age 12 and older and is limited to just 12 participants, ensuring personalized instruction and plenty of room to experiment. Over the course of the series, students will learn how to add a textural, sculptable layer to their paintings, transforming flat surfaces into dimensional works of art that can be painted again and mounted as shadow box pieces.

Each participant will complete at least two unique projects, gaining experience in layering, pattern-making, color blending, and mixed-media techniques. Whether you’re a seasoned artist or simply curious to try something new, this class offers a fresh and fun way to expand your creative toolkit – and go home with one-of-a-kind artwork to proudly display.

Tuition is $65 for Carnegie Hall members and $75 for nonmembers, with a special student scholarship rate of just $40. All materials are provided, and no prior experience is necessary.

To register or learn more, visit carnegiehallwv.org or call 304-645-7917. Space is limited, so early registration is encouraged.
