Carnegie Hall invites community members, families, and craft enthusiasts to explore creativity this spring through two engaging, hands-on workshops designed to inspire makers of all skill levels. Taking place on Saturday, Apr. 18, these immersive classes highlight both traditional craftsmanship and accessible artistic expression.

Crossbody Purses Workshop (10 a.m. to 2 p.m.): Led by regional leather artisan Luke Davis, this workshop offers participants the opportunity to design and construct a structured, hard-shell leather crossbody bag – an elegant, functional accessory that can become a wardrobe staple or a meaningful handmade gift. Students will select from a variety of richly colored and patterned leather while learning foundational techniques including shaping, assembly, and finishing. All materials are provided, and no prior experience is required, though it is welcome.
Open to ages 14 and older, the class is limited to eight participants to ensure personalized instruction and a supportive creative environment. Registration is $155 for members and $175 for nonmembers. Davis is known for his engaging teaching style and has built a strong following through previous workshops at Carnegie Hall, where he emphasizes both craftsmanship and confidence-building.

Paper Quilled Spring Flowers Workshop (10 a.m. to 3 p.m.): Artist and instructor Teri Hartford leads this beginner-friendly class celebrating the delicate art of paper quilling. Participants will learn how to roll, shape, and arrange thin strips of paper into intricate floral designs, creating a one-of-a-kind composition mounted on cardstock – perfect for framing or gifting.
Open to ages 12 and older, this workshop welcomes all experience levels and is limited to 12 participants, allowing for individual guidance in a relaxed, supportive setting. All supplies are included. Registration is $25 per person. With limited space and strong community interest in hands-on arts programming, early registration is encouraged for both workshops.
Carnegie Hall is proud to continue its Appalachian Heritage Craft series, celebrating the region’s enduring traditions through hands on learning, artistry, and community connection.
