Greenbrier East’s boys soccer team defeated James Monroe Tuesday, with a score of 8-1. Three goals were scored by Jodice Shanklin, two by Brandon Barnes, and one apiece by Cory Beswick, Sam Snyder, and Nathan Robinson.
Coach Lucas Lemine was pleased with the effort. “We did well possessing the ball, did well with our positions and our formations. There was not a lot of cluster. We played clean. We had possession of the ball for about 80 percent of the time. We shared the ball well. We still have to work on individual defending and group defending. Just got to clean up that aspect of the game. I’m proud of the guys. They worked hard. We played well, it was a good game. It was a good opener. We just need to build, not settle for what we’ve got.”
Lemine said the team had added a few new players, bringing the junior varsity up to a full complement of 16 players. Three home games were scheduled for later in the week: Princeton Thursday (junior varsity and varsity), Buckhannon Friday (junior varsity and varsity), and Cross Lanes Christian on Saturday. Saturday’s game is part of a double-header. The girls play at 2 p.m., and the boys play at 4, both against Cross Lanes.
