Dr. H. Randall Grumpelt, of Second Creek, has just published a book entitled Beyond Illusions and Conformity Pressures: In Search of an Authentic Self.
A discussion and a book signing has been scheduled at the Monroe County Library from 2-4 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 20. The book may be purchased by using the author’s name and checking at Amazon, Kindle, Nook, or a hardback copy may be purchased at the library conference.
Grumpelt, a retired college professor and forensic psychologist, examines how we are influenced by our species, our culture and external expectations – and how we can shed false layers to allow a more unadulterated, thoughtful and original self to unfold.
On one hand, the book is enlightened by examples from a forensic practice that dealt with murderers, rapists and con artists. In addition, an understanding of intense emotional issues like love and hate are explored by case studies and many layers of scientific research. The book contains several clever sketches that colorfully illustrate concepts supplied by Kenney Bostic, a well-known local artist and cartoonist.
For those interested in up-to-date knowledge of why people kill, harm and hurt each other, here is an opportunity to gain information and insights. Guidance in counteracting negative forces in one’s life will also be part of the conversation.
Some interesting munchies will be available.
