The Greenbrier County Schools Foundation recently awarded Stephen L. Baldwin Memorial Scholarships to 12 Greenbrier County high school seniors.

Recipients selected for the $1,000 scholarship awards were: Cassidy Hicks, Jeremey Keeney, Kerri Arbuckle, McKenna Gillilan, Alex Lim, Hunter Chellis, Carrie Clemons and Dylan Vandall from Greenbrier East High School. Receiving the scholarship awards from Greenbrier West High School were: Kaitlin Kyle, Shannon Brunzo-Hager, Jara Hall and Gabrielle Krystynak.

Stephen L. Baldwin served as the Superintendent of Greenbrier County Schools from 1988-2002. The endowed scholarship fund was established in 2005 by the Greenbrier County Schools Foundation (GCSF) with a gift from Baldwin’s wife, Charlotte. Stephen L. Baldwin Memorial Scholarships are awarded annually to students from Greenbrier East High School and Greenbrier West High School. Since 2006, 111 scholarships have been awarded.

It was through Baldwin’s dedication and vision that the Greenbrier County Schools Foundation was established. This scholarship fund is just one of many meaningful ways that his commitment to education and his impact on the lives of Greenbrier County students will continue for years to come.

The Greenbrier County Schools Foundation is a nonprofit organization that generates and distributes resources to enrich, maintain and expand educational opportunities for students in Greenbrier County. Gifts to the foundation are tax-deductible. Individuals and businesses interested in making a contribution or learning more about the mission and goals of the foundation should contact Tim Holbrook at 304-546-1893.
