Alderson-Avary “Bugs” McMillian, Jr., 87, went to heaven on Sunday, Jan. 30, 2022 at the Peyton Hospice House.
Born Oct. 9, 1934, at Lester, WV, a son of the late Avary and Ocie Tolliver McMillion.
He was also preceded in death by six sisters, Ina Foley, Irene Eaton, Edith Cook, Maxine Clark, Billie Bailey, and Hazel McMillion; and one brother, Lomer “Chick” McMillion.
Avary served in the US Army stationed in Germany. Avary belonged to Broad Run Baptist Church in Wolf Creek, where he had served as Sunday School Teacher, Deacon, and Trustee.
Avary was a member of Tri-County Volunteer Fire Department and Ghent Volunteer Fire Department. He was retired from WV Forestry Division as a Forest Ranger for 28 years, August 1960 to September 1988.
Avary is survived by his wife of 61 years, Cora Lee Gunter McMillion; daughters, Tina Lilly and husband David of Cool Ridge, and Deana Knapp of Alderson; grandchildren, Jimmy and Meghan Lilly, Patrick Lilly of Cool Ridge, Sharon and Amber Knapp of Alderson; great-grandchildren, Courtney Lilly of Castleford, ID, Logan and Matthew Lilly of Cool Ridge, Justin, Winter, Aerionna, Kadience Knapp of Alderson, and Ryelee Tooley of Huntington; sister-in-law, Jean McMillion of Lynco, WV, sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Wanda and Tiny Minton of Thompson, IL, sister-in-law, Mary Gurley of Southern Pines, NC, sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Linda and Mike Wiker of Hilldale, WV, and sister-in-law, Nettie Gunter of Alderson, and brother-in-law, David Gunter of Peterstown; and several nieces, nephews and many special friends.
In keeping with his wishes, Avary was cremated.
Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 5, at the River of Life Church of God with Pastors Dennis Zebosky, Gary Baker, and Bob Ratliff officiating.
Friends may call from 12 noon until time of services at the church on Saturday.
