Augusta Virginia Dunn Hefner

Lewisburg-Augusta Virginia “August” Dunn Hefner, 94, passed away Saturday, May 9, 2020, of heart failure following minor surgery.

Born Aug. 14, 1925, at Maxwelton, she was the daughter of the late Virgil Melvin Dunn, Sr. and Nancy Ada Loudermilk Dunn.

August attended school at Maxwelton and graduated from Lewisburg High School where she played basketball and was part of the 1942 championship team. She married Robert O. Hefner, Sr. on June 10, 1948. August attended Henning Church of God where she taught Sunday school and was active in the JOY group, WCG, and served on the Sunday prayer team at church. She loved reading, working crossword puzzles, playing games and watching videos. She loved sweets and kept homemade desserts on hand.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sisters, June Darlington and Hazel McKnight; and her brother, Virgil “Jack” Dunn, Jr.

August is survived by three children, Randy (Patricia) Hefner of Apex, NC, Debra (Lloyd) Sammons of Reedsburg, WI, and Robert (Dyan) Hefner, Jr. of Frankford, WV; five grandchildren, Sean, Joshua, Robbi, Nathaniel, and Elizabeth; eight great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Brownie Dunn; brother-in-law, Calvin Hefner; and special cousin, Marty Burns, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 17, at Henning Church of God, Frankford, with Pastor Robert Hefner, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Due to covid-19 restrictions, services will be limited to the immediate family and close church members.

Pallbearers will be Sean Hefner, Robbi Hefner, Nathaniel Hefner, Adam Merritt, Carson Hefner, Joshua Hefner and Lloyd Sammons.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Henning Church of God Memorial Fund, 3599 Vago Road, Frankford WV 24938.

Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home in Lewisburg is in charge of arrangements.
