Asa Carl Altizer, 83, of Renick, WV, left us peacefully at his home on Dec. 19, 2024. He was a much-loved husband, father, and grandfather, well known for his gift of gab and ability to have conversation with anyone. He was also a fiercely proud grandpaw and an avid outdoorsman.

Asa began his life on Jan. 14, 1941, the seventh of eight siblings. Asa spent a busy childhood on the farm learning a strong work ethic, which he carried with him into the United States Army, where he was stationed in Korea and Washington, DC.

Asa’s career before retirement was as a school bus driver with Greenbrier County Schools, where he prioritized the safety of hundreds of children during his career.

Asa attended Renick Baptist Church; enjoyed hunting, and fishing, and passing those traditions on to his son and grandchildren. He also enjoyed raising and training hunting dogs, digging ramps, and hunting ginseng.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Myrlie Altizer, his first wife, Judy Paulin Altizer, and his siblings Harmon, Catherine, Ed, Jim, and Louie.

Asa is survived by his loving wife June Altizer, siblings Shirley Hare and Thelma Harrison, son George Altizer (Sharon Altizer), daughter Cathy Altizer, stepson Brian Gray, grandchildren Bridgette Altizer and Paige Altizer, and several step-grandchildren.

All are invited to the service to celebrate Asa’s life, to be held on Dec. 29 at Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home in Lewisburg, with Pastor Steve Barnett officiating.

The visitation will be at 1 p.m. and services at 3 p.m. His ashes will be scattered on his family property, in the woods he loved so much.
