The deadline to apply for the fall cohort of the New River Community and Technical College Practical Nursing program is Friday, Apr. 18.

The Practical Nursing program is an intensive one-year certificate program designed to prepare students for careers as Licensed Practical Nurses in a variety of health care settings. The curriculum provides students with classroom and clinical experiences in a variety of acute care, extended care and outpatient facilities. It also includes courses in pharmacology and nutrition.

The program is designed for career laddering, awarding appropriate credits for a seamless transfer into more advanced nursing programs of study, according to Joyce Egnor, RN, MSN, program director. She added that New River’s graduates have an excellent record of passing the practical nursing licensing exam on their first attempt. The program is fully accredited by the West Virginia Board of Examiners for Licensed Practical Nurses.

The Practical Nursing program is offered at the Nicholas County Campus in Summersville, the Beckley Campus and the Greenbrier Valley Campus in Lewisburg.

Complete information about the program requirements and prerequisite courses can be found on the New River CTC website, www.newriver.edu.

For additional information, contact the admissions office on the campus you wish to attend, or call or e-mail Tina Bryant at 304-883-2481, tbryant@newriver.edu.
